It is rare to be able to find your next Kiger in the wild and than bring her home.  Imagine our
surprise....

Norman and I went out to the Kiger HMA just prior to the roundup to do a final photographing of
the horses.  We were enchanted with a particular band.  They accepted us being close and
allowed us to spend over an hour with them the first day that they were spotted.

Azara was one of the main mares of the band.  She wasn't the lead mare but was a secondary
mare in the hierarchy.  She apparently has a young daughter, pictured below with her.  We don't
know if the daughter was rounded up as well.

We are truly blessed to find Azara in the wild and be able to adopt her during the 2007 Kiger
Adoption.

Like nearly all the captured Kigers, Azara went through a period of adjustment in the corrals.
During this time, many of the horses don't eat for the first couple of days leading to weight loss.
The Kigers at this year's adoption were particularly skinny, but Azara has starting to regain her
weight.  We are hopeful that she is still bred to her wild beau.  He was truly a remarkable stallion
and we are hoping to have the opportunity to have some of his genes in our breeding program.
Below is the band's main stallion.  We are hoping that Azara is bred to him.
We didn't see him at the Adoption, so we can only hope that he still remains out in the wild on
Kiger perpetuating his genes.
